Guide for video makers
How to find the right location for your video
Scouting your location well in advance makes production run smoothly and saves time on set. These are the points we saw decide a good shoot day most often in fifteen years.

Light and colour temperature
Avoid shooting straight into a window: your subject becomes a silhouette. Daylight is around 5500K, household lamps around 3200K. Stick to one kind of light and you have nothing to worry about. Most LED lights today are daylight-balanced.
Sound
Big rooms with hard surfaces echo. Blankets, rugs and soft materials dampen. And listen to the surroundings: a busy junction or a fire station can ruin a take.
Control over the surroundings
In the street you don’t control what happens in the background. If you want consistency between takes, choose a place you can fully close off.

Access and power
Can the crew find the location and park? Is there enough power, or do you need extension cords? Will the neighbours complain about your lights?
Permission
Imagine: everything is set and production is stopped because you had no permission. Private locations are the safest choice; for public space, ask for a permit in advance.
