Wanted: a location for a film production
A sunny Sunday afternoon, 2 pm. The location scout rings the bell and visits the loft with a photographer friend. The loft has another audition, I think.
Short deadlines
“I’m actually a production manager, and sometimes a stylist,” she says. “Shooting starts in ten days and we haven’t found the perfect location yet. That’s why I’m giving up my Sunday.” Meanwhile the photographer captures the loft from every angle.
The picture has to be right
“In most productions we rarely move the furniture. A modern house has to be furnished in a modern way. We choose a location not only for the script, but because the furniture is perfect.” At the end she laughs: “Maybe we should change the script a little.”
What a production needs
Floor area, orientation of the sun, terraces, room for 20 to 30 people, crew parking and good arrangements with the neighbours. Production companies often visit five to ten locations before choosing one.
