A weekend in Antwerp, from Zurenborg
Two days in Antwerp with friends or family: here is how to plan them, with the loft as your base between Zurenborg and the Groen Kwartier.
Day 1, morning: Zurenborg
Coffee, then the Cogels-Osylei and the Waterloostraat: turrets, stained glass and villas from around 1900. Five minutes on foot.
Day 1, afternoon: the centre
Tram 4 stops at the door and takes you to the Groenplaats. Cathedral, Grote Markt, Conscienceplein and in the evening the MAS rooftop at sunset.
Day 2: green and river
Breakfast on the terrace overlooking the gardens. Then through the Groen Kwartier and, in good weather, through the pedestrian tunnel to Sint-Anna beach on the Left Bank.
With kids
The Zoo is next to Central Station, Park Spoor Noord has fountains and play areas, and Sint-Anna beach is one big playground in summer. Note: the stairs to the sleeping mezzanines are steep, not suitable for toddlers.
Arriving and getting around
Berchem station is 1 km away, Antwerp Central 1.8 km. Tram 4 stops at the door. By car: the low-emission zone applies in the centre; park in the street with a day ticket or at Berchem station car park.
